Hulu’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has also already been renewed for a second season, as I have previously reported. It is clear to me that The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is supposed to be a replacement of The Orville, as they are both comedy sci-fi series, and Hitchhiker’s Guide will be replacing The Orville in the studio lot. But I do have to stress that at the moment, I am not aware of Hulu being in talks with any other streaming services or networks about moving the show elsewhere.Īfter the third season of The Orville finishes production, sets and props will be dismantled and the studio space of The Orville will be used by another Hulu show, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Seeing as how The Orville already moved once, it can easily do it again. These networks and streaming services cancel shows all the time, but series like Lucifer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Expanse have all found their homes somewhere else. The sci-fi dramedy, created by and starring Seth MacFarlane, is set on the titular USS Orville, a mid-level exploratory space vessel in the Planetary Union, a 25th-century interstellar alliance of Earth and many other planets.Įven though the show is cancelled, it is still possible for fans to get a fourth season. We probably would not have even gotten a third season if it wasn’t for an international deal that Disney needed to complete (which included a third season of The Orville). However, we will still be getting the third season. I am still trying to get more details on the situation but from my understanding, the intention was never to make a fourth season. Hulu has decided to cancel the show and will not return for a fourth season. The show features a newly revamped Orville, a new crew member on the bridge, and what we think are bigger, more spectacular stories, not just in terms of the visuals and the action, but the emotions and the emotional fireworks as well.I have some unfortunate news for fans of The Orville. "We’re getting to a point in the third season where the kinds of stories we wanted to tell were much broader and more ambitious in scope than even the first two seasons. "You had a new opening title, a new set, new costumes, a new look, just a new aesthetic that really competes in the world of streaming shows."īut fear not: "The show is still the show, but with some new aspects to it," executive producer Brannon Braga says, pointing out that it’s not just a matter of the show having a new home. "It seemed that because the show was going to be making such an uptick in scope, and in many ways, going to feel like a reset, it felt like it wanted something special," MacFarlane tells SFX magazine in the new issue, featuring Ms. Creator, writer, and Captain Ed Mercer himself, Seth MacFarlane, felt naming the season was appropriate.
